Games haven't started, but NFL betting is still getting plenty of sportsbook action already because of futures and other prop picks. Who are the top MVP candidates in 2009?
TOP CONTENDERS: Peyton Manning (+500), Tom Brady (+500), Drew Brees (+1000)
Quarterbacks always dominate this award and that's no exception in 2009 according to the top favorites. You can argue that Peyton Manning and the Colts offense had an "off" year in 2008, yet he still won the MVP. He's that good and the safest pick to win another award. If Tom Brady comes anywhere near his legendary 2007 form, when he threw 50 touchdown passes, he's a lock to win. What about Drew Brees? No quarterback does more in the course of a game for his team, as Brees topped 5,000 yards through the air last season.
SOLID PICKS: Adrian Peterson (+1000), Kurt Warner (+1200)
If the Vikings' offense maximizes its potential this season, particularly if the passing game gets going, Adrian Peterson is in for another banner year. He's definitely a good betting pick to lead the NFL in rushing. Meanwhile, Warner arguably should've won the MVP last season after he turned back the clock and threw for 30-plus scores. If he stays healthy, he'll contend again.
INTRIGUING BUT RISKY: Donovan McNabb (+1500), LaDainian Tomlinson (+1500)
A few years ago, these guys would've been in the "top contender" category. Now, while they're still worth the Pittsburgh Steelers hats wholesale per head whenever Cincinnati Reds snapback cheap play, they're past their prime and always injury risks. However, McNabb will always post good numbers in Andy Reid's pass-happy offense when he plays and Tomlinson could treat us to one last great season before he breaks down.
SLEEPERS: Jay Cutler (+2800), Aaron Rodgers (+3000), field (+800)
Cutler has plenty of detractors, as his supporting in Chicago's offense is nothing like the weapons he had in Denver, but he's talented enough to make everyone around him better. Rodgers showed last year that he can excel in Green Bay's offense and he should post great numbers again with his solid corps of receivers. The field can't be ignored in NFL predictions either; Maurice Jones-Drew isn't listed as an individual pick in most books and he could bust out Youth snapbacks wholesale a No. 1 running back with the Jaguars this season.
Pick: Brady. He doesn't offer great value, but he'll further cement his legend if he stays healthy.
